Fish Tacos with Crispy Battered Fish Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup cold beer or sparkling water (for batter)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage (for slaw)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Battered Fish:
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Slowly add cold beer (or sparkling water) to the dry ingredients and mix until the batter reaches a smooth, thick consistency.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Dip each piece of fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then carefully place the fish into the hot oil. Fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the fish from the oil and place it on paper towels to drain.
2. Prepare the Slaw:
  1. In a small bowl, combine shredded cabbage, sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until the slaw is well combined.
3. Assemble the Tacos:
  1. Warm the tortillas in a skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft and pliable.
  2. Place a few pieces of crispy fish on each tortilla.
  3. Top with a generous amount of slaw and garnish with fresh cilantro.
  4. Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the tacos.
4. Serve:
  1. Enjoy the crispy fish tacos immediately, savoring the balance of crispy fish and creamy slaw.
