  • 1 can (6 oz/170 g) tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

Instructions:

1. Sauté the Vegetables
  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and bell peppers, and cook for about 5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
2. Brown the Meat
  1. Add the ground beef to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.
3. Add the Tomatoes and Beans
  1. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth.
  2. Add the chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper (optional), salt, and black pepper.
4. Simmer the Chili
  1. Bring the chili to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and let it cook for about 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add sugar if the chili is too acidic, and adjust seasoning to taste.
5. Serve and Enjoy
  1. Serve the chili hot with your choice of toppings, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.
  2. Pair with rice, cornbread, or tortilla chips for a complete meal.
