Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 1/3 cup apple sauce (or flaxseed meal mixed with water)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, mix the plant-based milk, apple sauce (or flaxseed mixture), vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Mixtures:
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve:
