Crispy on the outside and melty on the inside, these vegan mozzarella sticks are a delicious and cruelty-free take on a classic snack. Vegan mozzarella slices are coated with seasoned breadcrumbs and either baked for a healthier option or fried for a crispier bite. Perfect for dipping in marinara sauce, these sticks are great as an appetizer, party snack, or comfort food treat.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (225 g) vegan mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk (e.g., almond or soy)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko works best for extra crunch)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Olive oil spray (for baking) or oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cheese:
    • Cut the vegan mozzarella cheese into sticks, about ½ inch thick and 4 inches long.
  2. Set Up Breading Stations:
    • In three separate bowls, place the flour, plant-based milk, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • First, dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, then the plant-based milk, and finally into the breadcrumbs. Ensure the sticks are fully coated.
  4. Chill the Coated Sticks:
    • Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a lined tray and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere.
  5. Cooking Options:
    • Baking: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Spray the sticks with olive oil and bake for 10-12 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
    • Frying: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the mozzarella sticks in small batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the vegan mozzarella sticks warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dip.

Enjoy these plant-based mozzarella sticks as a crunchy, gooey snack!
